2008SJC Girls' Futsal_ 29.06.08

Let the games begin. Our 2008 SJC Girls' Futsal League Round 1 games were played today from 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm at HTO de Futsal. Jerseys for the players, coaches and team managers were distributed to the respective team managers.

2008 Penang Scrabble Open_Open Category Day 3_23.06.08

The third day competition, which comprises of 5 games, started at 8.30 a.m. As the day before, the top of the table clash was between Ganesh, who is undefeated todate and Nigel (whose only loss was to Ganesh). Ganesh managed to win again.

Rama’s round 16 opponent was Sigaporean Master, Cheah Siu Hean. This was their second meeting in the tournament.

Finally all the games were over. The Champion was Ganesh, who finished with 19 wins and 1 loss (to Nigel) while Nigel Richards took the runners up position.

Rama managed to achieve his goal of a top ten finish by securing the ninth position with 12 wins and 8 losses. He was also the best U18 player of the tournament. The U18 award was a keenly contested prize, as the youngsters accounted themselves extremely well by taking up the 9th to 12th position i.e. Ker Jen Ho (10th), Khoo Beng Way (11th) and Alastair Richards (12th).

2008 ICT Penang Scrabble Open_Open Category Day 2_20.06.08

The second day competition comprises of 11 games starting at 8.30 a.m. After a good night rest, everyone was eager to start. The top of the table clash was between Ganesh and Nigel Richards. Ganesh won by 20 points.

Rama started his first of eleven games against Bob Jackman from Australia. The eleven games marathon was completed at 9.30 p.m.

Andrew Chang made it to the top of the table in Round 10, where Ganesh had made it his own the whole day but he could not dislodge Ganesh.

Round 14 was Rama’s turn to face Ganesh at the top of the table but he was unable to beat the Master. Despite Rama’s best effort, he lost by 124 points to the number 1 rated player in the world.

After a total of 15 games, Rama managed to collect 9 points and achieving sixth position going into the final day.

2008 ICT Penang Scrabble Open_Open Category Day 1_20.06.08

While Priya and I were playing with the novices, Rama took part in the Open Category which consists of a total of 20 games played in three days at Bayview Hotel, Georgetown, Penang.

The international field of 50 players included Nigel Richards (Current World Champion), Ganesh (Current ranked World No.1), Jason Katz Brown (Creator of Quackle Scrabble program) and Master players from Malaysia, Singapore and Australia.

In the first day i.e. Friday 20th June, four rounds were played. Rama started the competition against Sameer. He had a good first day of games, winning three games (W-L-W-W).

After the first day of matches, we were treated with dinner at the revolving restaurant at the 17th Floor of the Hotel. Food was plentiful and delicious with the view of the Georgetown and Penang straits which was breathtaking.
